There are prayers said that are specific priorities to the individual praying. Prayers asking God to provide physical nourishment for that person and their family in times of need. Prayers asking God for “daily bread” so that individual can gain spiritual nourishment and stay on the righteous path. Some prayers ask God to heal sick ones or for protection from harm or evil.
The prayers which you recite in the morning, at night, or at other times are from many prayers revealed over many centuries, by many religions, by many cultures, for many occasions from around the world. A few priorities of those prayers asks for spiritual growth, help dealing with tests and difficulties, and forgiveness. Some prayers are specific for the soul praying for tranquility, purity, and firmness in their Covenant with God by doing His Will. Selfless acts of prayers pray for all of humanity, all of God’s creations, and unity for all the nations on earth.
But the highest priority for prayer . . . we pray only for the love of God! Prayers that are to praise, show gratitude, and thanks. The spirit has influence … prayer has spiritual effect. Therefore we pray. If God answers the prayer that is a priority for the plant, when the plant prays, “O God! Send me rain! And God answers the prayer, and the plant grows. Then the prayers you make a priority . . . God can make those prayers a priority too!
The words for the week are faith and confidence. If you pray, it is because of faith in the Higher Power to whom you are praying to. And once that prayer is said, keeping that confidence until that prayer comes to fruition. Both of the words are intangible objects, essential to the soul, and free … money can’t buy either!
These two words also play an important role in everyday situations. Faith, by definition, is a strong or unshakable belief in something without proof or evidence. So you need faith daily to believe that you can work hard, play fair, love unconditionally, cope in all situations, achieve success, and overcome obstacles. This is not very easy to do everyday.
Confidence is a feeling of trust. In the dictionary it is a noun, to me it should be a verb, an action word. You have to trust and believe in yourself or others’ abilities that something will happen or that something is true. This is not very easy to do everyday. But when you don’t dwell on the negative, and focus on the positive, you can be more “self-confident” because you are worrying far less about failure or the disapproval of others.
“If one friend loves another, is it not natural that he should wish to say so? Though he knows that he is aware of his love, does he still not wish to tell him of it? . . . It is true that God knows the wishes of all hearts, but the impulse to pray is a natural one, springing from man’s love to God.” ~ `Abdu’l-Bahá
As I ask the question this month, what do you make a priority in your prayers? I forgot to ask if you pray at all and if prayer is even a priority to you. If you know that God created you. And He is the All-Knowing, the All- Wise. And that God knows what you want and need. Then why should you pray?
Because prayer is the food of the soul. When you pray you are taking in spiritual nourishment! Prayer increases your capacity to enjoy spiritual gifts and to experience true happiness. Prayer helps you to advance towards God and not lose sight of your special destiny. This is why you should pray that through the love of God your soul may develop and be strengthened.
I am re-posting a positive affirmation from July last year as it is still so relevant this year, asking what do you make a priority in your prayers? If you read this last year, thank you for continuing to follow W.H.A.T.!™. If this is your first time . . . enjoy!
Priority Number One – Put God First!
Putting this priority first will help with all other priorities. Okay! Well, you ask … How?
- Daily Prayers (supplications) – Be humble to your Creator.
- Obligatory Prayers – Recite prayers based on your faith or religion.
- Fixed Requirements and Holy Days – Perform the necessary actions of your faith or religion.
Prayer and supplication are the very water of life. They are the cause of existence, the refining of the soul, and attainment to the utmost of joy. Know that in every word and movement in prayer . . . there are allusions, mysteries, and a wisdom that we are unable to comprehend.
Priority Number Two – Love Yourself!!
Without this priority, no other priority matters! Okay! Well, you ask . . . How?
- Believe in yourself – If you don’t believe in you . . . who else will?
- Never stop learning and seeking the truth – NEVER!!!!
- Check your belief system from time to time – you can’t always be right!
- Take care of important things to you – health, family, friends, nature, income, future, etc.
Always remember that worldly attachments and vain desires impede the soul’s closeness to God. Don’t be surprised when things are not the way you expect. All things, whether good or bad, are ordained by God.
Priority Number Three – Repeat Priorities One and Two!!!
This priority will help you to remember your top two priorities! Without this priority, you may mistakenly make someone else’s priorities your priority without noticing!
WHAT do you make a priority in your prayers?
When you pray . . . you are having a conversation with your Spiritual Adviser.
You need to understand that the life you are living has a higher purpose. You are seeking the answers to questions you hope will guide you to your destiny. What you pray and how you pray is a unique opportunity to build faith, hope, and love.
Practice these daily for spiritual growth:
PRAY – you talk to God!
READ YOUR HOLY BOOK – God talks to you!
TESTIFY – You talk for God!
