There are checklists for anything you can imagine like traveling domestically or abroad. There are checklists for the car, work, home, safety and surgery procedures, and more. But what about the checklists on the maintenance check for self? Well here’s a small checklist to start!
- Check your health – Without your health, the rest of this list won’t matter! Maintain a diet which consist of fruits and vegetables, prepare your own meals, and try to grow your own food. Drink plenty of water and keep your body active.
- Check on your loved ones – Time is promised to no man. So keep in touch with those you love and those who love you. Let them know you love them while they are alive and give them their flowers while they can still smell them!
- Check your finances – If you have more money than one person can spend in a lifetime, then make sure you give back. If you are barely surviving, check for any available resource or barter and trade. Remember, money is just a resource needed for this material world!
- Check your belief system – Open your mind to gaining understanding and wisdom wherever you may find it! As you acquire knowledge, it is worthwhile to pause from time to time and examine the validity of those beliefs.
- Check on your soul – The soul is a spiritual entity created by God. Just as in the womb, you acquire the powers needed for this world, so in this world you should acquire the powers needed for the next!
I learned a new way of thinking about love that I had to share with you for this month’s positive affirmation, “What is God saying that you are not listening to?” These profound words were written in a letter in 1913.
What a power is love! It is the most wonderful, the greatest of all living powers. Love gives life to the lifeless. Love lights a flame in the heart that is cold. Love brings hope to the hopeless and gladdens the hearts of the sorrowful. In the world of existence there is indeed no greater power than the power of love.
There are four kinds of love. The first is the love that flows from God to man. Through this love the world of being receives life. Through this love man is endowed with physical existence. This love is the origin of all the love in the world of creation. The second is the love that flows from man to God. This is faith. The attraction to the Divine to receive the Bounties of God and entrance into the Kingdom of God. This love is the origin of all philanthropy.
The third is the love of God towards the Self or Identity of God.“Thou art God’s shadow on earth“. Which means that YOU are the reflection of God in the mirror of His Creation. This is the reality of love, Eternal Love. Through this Love all other love exists. The fourth is the love of man for man. The love which exists between the hearts of believers. This love is attained through the knowledge of God, so that men see the Divine Love reflected in the heart. Each sees in the other the Beauty of God reflected in the soul. This love will bring the foundation of real unity.
These four kinds of love originate from God. It is said the greatest gift of God is Love. And it is written that God is Love. So until Love takes possession of the heart, no other divine bounty can be revealed in it. So I ask … if you know God, do you know Love? More importantly … does Love know YOU?
We can well perceive how the whole human race is encompassed with great incalculable afflictions. We see it languishing on its bed of sickness, sore-tried and disillusioned….Witness how they have entangled all men, themselves included, in the mesh of their devices. They can neither discover the cause of the disease, nor have they any knowledge of the remedy. They have conceived the straight to be crooked, and have imagined their friend an enemy. ~Bahá’u’lláh
Eventually, as an ever-evolving civilization exhausts its spiritual sources, a process of disintegration sets in. Morality diminishes, as does social cohesion. Challenges which have been overcome, become barriers. Increasingly, uncertainty about the meaning and value of life generates anxiety and confusion.
It is not uncommon for people to hold certain beliefs and say things that basically contradict those beliefs. We all have habits of the mind formed throughout our lives, that cause us to say or do things without thinking about them. If we did think first, it would become clear that we do not really believe or agree with it. As we acquire knowledge, it is worthwhile to pause from time to time and examine the validity of those beliefs.
Do you believe only in what you can see? Are your eyes your only reliable source? Sometimes the ears hear the truth first . . . but the eyes can’t believe it. At times, that gut feeling tries to chime in for discernment . . . but the eyes can’t see it. Over and over again, the heart aches inside and the body is in pain . . . but the eyes don’t understand it. And instead of investigating the truth for yourself, you believe the eyes. We all do it, it is human nature.
And there are times when the eyes overlook the truth. Because you are too busy looking somewhere else. And times when the truth is right in front of you, but you don’t see it. While you may be aware of the earthly functions of your eyes, ears, hands, heart, brain, etc. You should not make the mistake of overemphasizing any one of them to the point that you lose sight of your true existence.
You may not necessarily be searching for the truth nor interested in finding it. But it is important to be receptive to truth. You have to be willing to listen and explore truth with a degree of openness!
WHAT is God saying that you are not listening to?
God speaks to us always. We have to let go and let God . . . tell us what “The Plan” is for our lives. Often we make choices, giving ourselves credit for our mistakes and successes. God is in charge and speaks to us through many resources.
Who is talking? It may be a child, spouse, friend, or co-worker. It may be a minister, teacher, doctor, mechanic, or stranger. They are the messengers.
God is the Creator who uses them to bring you the truth! You may not like the answers received … but when God speaks … LISTEN! God speaks with wisdom and love!
